Storeroom2010 collects items of reusable furniture (compliant with Fire Safety in the case of soft furnishings) then offers it at low cost to the Island community who are not able to furnish their own homes with new items.

Furniture donated by Island residents may otherwise have been taken to the landfill site, so this also minimises impact on the environment.

Storeroom2010 offers Island residents this recycling opportunity to really help their community and the environment.

Our community has often heard of us through word of mouth, but also from our adverts placed regularly on Wightbay.

We are based in Bridge Road, Cowes where we have a warehouse and shop; both are open to the general public and to referred clients from various support agencies.  The referred clients are offered a further discount on furniture.  All monies raised help to keep Storeroom2010 open.

In addition to our recycling initiatives and in the provision of our service, Storeroom2010 also gives volunteer opportunities to those seeking a road back to employment; ultimately enabling confidence and capacity building in a framework of support to reach gainful employment.

At the end of June 2010, due to funding being withdrawn, it was thought the Island would be losing this valuable service, but a band of volunteers, without whom the project could not continue and a few staff, have together helped to save Storeroom2010.

How have we helped?

January 2012

Another 3 week month for Storeroom, but we have helped lots of people with their purchases; we have also kept the bargain hunters amongst you happy!  Nearly 650 items went out of our doors for re-use, which means that over 8,300kgs did not go to the island landfill, or to make it easier to ‘see’ approximately 2.25 times the weight of the furniture you can see in this photo.

Re-cycling is on everybody’s minds with the new refuse arrangements now in force and in the last year Storeroom saved over 126,500kgs of unwanted household items from ending their days at the tip.

During January our volunteers worked over 600 hours to keep Storeroom open to all.  We really could not manage without them; so if you have a half day or full day during the week to spare, get in touch and join the team!

Please remember us if you have any household furniture to donate, sorry, but Storeroom cannot clean or repair these items.

As a stand-alone charity we don’t have a huge supporting network to help financially, so every donation and purchase really does make a difference.
